ku- in this case means in. So when I write I am saying X which means in English. In Shona the ku- does not stand alone as in does in English.

Chirungu means various things: 1. The language of England - which is also called Chingezi;; 2. Manners or customs of all Caucasian peoples, not necessarily the English; 3. Place that has been affected by western influences e.g most cities in Africa. So we say kuChirungu in reference to city life. That is the reason why I say English to refer to language of England.
